Courses

Scottish Winter Mountaineering Courses

Based in the Cairngorms in January, these courses bridge the gap between summer climbing/walking and winter mountaineering. The ratio is one instructor to six participants, two days in duration. The courses cover use of ice axe and crampons, navigation, basic rope work including snow belays (achors), avalanche assessment and problem avoidance.

The deadline for applications is Mid October (check these with Plas y Brenin).

Alpine Mountaineering Courses

Based in the Chamonix Valley in June, July and August, for climbers and mountaineers who have experience of British mountaineering and who want to climb in the Alps. Ratio of one Guide: three participants, three days in duration. A practical introduction is given to glacier travel, crevasse rescue, avalanche assessment and use of equipment.
