Masthead: Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust - "Providing quality mountain training for young people"

Testimonials

Thanks for everything over the couple of days.  I really enjoyed the course and learnt so much.  I feel like I could quite happily go winter walking with a group of friends, whereas; just a couple of days ago, I had no idea what to do.  Especially enjoyed our group with Sam, and probably the rope work was one of my favourite bits.  All in all, a great time up in the mountains, and I am planning on going again this winter with some friends from university for a couple of days walking.  Hopefully the beginning of many adventures in the mountains

Ridiculously fun!  Really useful too!  Food and accommodation excellent!  Has made me really keen to get out in winter, and means that I can do so safely.

Andy Howell – Scottish Winter 2012

Had a really amazing weekend with the team, Jonathan and Sammy.  What an experience.  I came here wanting to learn more and improve on techniques.  I am learning to feel confident and enthusiastic – I can’t wait to get out on the mountains again.  Thank you.

Charlotte Dyer – Scottish Winter 2012

I have learnt so much more that all seems essential to climbing.  This course really is so good to ensure safety on the mountain.  Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience.  Can’t wait for the Alpine Course.

Ben Vincent – Scottish Winter 2012

I have read many mountaineering books over the years but nothing has compared to the skills I have learnt in the last few days.  The guides are extremely professional and take the time to show the skills needed to safely operate in the winter.  I would never be able to afford a full price winter course so I am very grateful to the JCMT for giving me the opportunity to learn new techniques.

Jack Cooper – Scottish Winter 2012

Would like to thank everyone involved with the Jonathan Conville Trust for organising such a great course.  It has been a great experience and I have learnt so much.  John and Sammy are brilliant instructors and are excellent at passing on their expertise.  I probably wouldn’t have had this opportunity if it weren’t for the Conville Trust, so thank you very much.

Phil Scott – Scottish winter 2012

What can I say – what an experience!  Having started climbing and enjoying the outdoors at the age of 24/25 years (late).  I regret missing out on opportunities such as D of E and Uni Clubs, where I could have learnt skills.  But finally, a course for even the aged.  I would never have had this chance to learn if not for the course – I’m too skint and nervous.  The guides were brilliant and the weekend cemented my love for mountains and has filled me with enthusiasm to continue onto bigger adventures.  Thanks to Ronnie and Rebecca, food and accommodation also brilliant.

Ruth Naughton-Doe – Scottish Winter 2012

Thank you so much for the chance to attend the Conville-sponsored Alpine Mountaineering course in Chamonix this past summer.  The experience (my first to the Alps, which looked like a film back-drop come to life) was an excellent one.  I met a network of enthusiastic experienced and budding mountaineers, and the course was a chance to expand my knowledge of technical mountaineering to new heights.  Being able to learn and then practice practical skills like crevasse rescue in an actual Alpine environment has made me not only more prepared for beginning my own ventures but also more excited to do so.  Reading about Jonathan on your website, I expect that the new generations of mountaineers  will have gotten their first (addictive) taste of Alpinism due to the Conville Trust’s generosity form a tribute of which he would be proud.

I was on the Jonathan Conville Alpine Preparation Course at Plas y Brenin in June this year, I had a brilliant time and the instructors were fantastic!  I’m heading up the Monte Rosa in Switzerland at the end of this month to put the skills I learnt at the centre into practice.

Nicola Jackson – Alpine Preparation Course/Plas y Brenin

What a fantastic course!  I completed the Alpine skills course in June in Chamonix.  The guides were  fantastic and the course covered exactly what I need to know to give me the confidence to begin my own Alpine adventures safely.  A massive thanks to the Conville Memorial Trust for making it possible for me to spend three quality days in the Alps learning from experienced guides and fellow climbers.  Dent de Geant here I come (after a few more practice climbs)!
