Luis Morris paints Jonathan’s Portrait
Last year coinciding with the discovery of Jonathan’s remains, I watched Portrait Artist of the Year Competition on Sky Arts Channel, and was captivated by Luis Morris’s work, who won the London round and continued on to the final. Katrina and myself also managed to contact Franscois Heusden, Jonathan’s climbing partner who confirmed to us that he had taken the photo of Jonathan the day they set off to attempt the summit 25th December 1979. Having Jonathan’s ice axe home with me somehow prompted me into arriving at the idea to commission his portrait. I owe a huge thanks to Luis who so generously waived his fee to JCMT. It will be cherished by myself and by my children.
